Interested in Making Your Neighborhood a Safer Place?
I live in the Amphi neighborhood and I have come to the conclusion that we can no longer wait for the City Government to clean up our neighborhoods. Many locations in the US faced with a similar situation have begun “Citizen on Patrol” activities (www.nacop.org). Citizen Patrol Activities include residents patrolling in pairs/groups on foot, bikes or in their cars to observe their surroundings and report suspicious or criminal activity to the police via 911. They act as extra pairs of eyes in order to help law enforcement officials. Such activities deter crime by their mere presence and visibility to the general public.
A Citizen Patrol:
· Is NOT A vigilante group or militia that will take the law into their own hands.
· Does NOT have the privilege to perform enforcement actions (e.g. apprehend criminals); they only observe and report.
· Do NOT have a special mandate to carry weapons and are encouraged to avoid physical contact.
· IS responsible for following all federal/state/local laws while they patrol their neighborhood.


If you are interested in making your neighborhood a safer place, talk with your neighbors. If there is sufficient interest set up a meeting to discuss what you want to accomplish, what these activities would comprise of, and how you could work more closely with the Tucson Police Department to be successful. Call your Police Division to see what they could do to assist you. Tucson Police Department already has a Citizens on Patrol program developed. All they need is interested residents and the willingness of the Division Leadership to start it up again. Good Luck!

This resiliency originates with the individual and is based on a few simple concepts:

* Self Reliance -- Being able to take care of yourself and your family with minimal outside or government involvement

*Personal Responsibility -- Realizing that every Right we have carries with it a particular Duty. If we cease to fulfill that Duty then we eventually lose that Right.

*Our Rights do not come from Government. The USA is the only country in existence which was founded upon the fact that our rights come from our creator not Government. If we set up a system where we believe our rights comes from the Government then we will eventually have those rights taken from us by that government. Rights and their associated Duties are delegated: Creator --> Individual --> Family --> Local Government --> State Government --> Federal Government. As you go down the chain the rights/authority decreases.
